CSJ Live Wires – Still on track!

"The last time I wrote an article about our teams was at the end of Autumn. After that just before Christmas we experienced cold, snowy conditions for two weeks or so. Many activities ceased and it goes without saying that flyball also took a back seat! Some shows cancelled and no outdoor training possible.

Come 2011 and we were beginning to look forward to Crufts with our two teams Warrington Wizards sponsored by CSJ and our YKC team Warrington Whizkids. Before that, at the end of January we celebrated in style our 10th Anniversary since registering with the BFA. Sixty of us had a superb evening at a local Golf Club, wining, dining, watching videos of our teams and members, browsing through an album containing the club's history or disco dancing.

As you can imagine we have come a long way since we started the club with just 5 people and their dogs. In no time at all we were making our presence felt, rocketing up the UK seed lists. We have grown ten fold. In particular, since we gained CSJ as sponsors we have capitalised on that position, making tracks and in all ways forging further ahead. It goes to show how CSJ have had a lot to do with our success, many team dogs benefiting from products like ‘Get Over'! All my own dogs (Aged 14, 10 & 8) may not race any more for Live Wires but they still love those tasty herbs in their dinner!

In February we practised hard with our two Crufts teams for the Finals. Our youngsters aged 10 – 20+ were so excited on their first visit to the NEC, the biggest dog show in the world! They did really well on the final day of the event (Sunday) to get to the semi finals, finishing 3rd overall. A real achievement! Our senior team (Wizards) on Thursday's qualifying rounds, in a tough group not only qualified for Saturday's Semi Finals, but celebrated winning the day's competition. Come Saturday from the afternoon's racing we reached the last four, qualifying for the second year running for the Final itself! It was a superb top speed contest and both teams were at their best. We gave it our all but sadly we'll need to wait another year for that elusive Crufts title!

We are already training for Crufts 2012 and hope to enter 2 senior and one YKC team in qualifying rounds. A win in Olympic year would be really something.. Following Crufts we have had our first BFA competition on grass – albeit in a marquee. We thought we may be a bit stale, with fewer competitions under our belts but that turned out to be far from the case. We had two teams in the premier division of 6 teams, Live Wires and Copper Wires. This is our youngest team and very promising. They fought hard and got a fabulous new seed time, at just over 17 seconds, but this time no silver ware to show for it! Their time will come! Live Wires were simply superb and dominated, ending up unbeaten against quality opposition, equalling the British Record – 16.59 secs. This well made up for our Cruft's disappointment!  Three of our teams are as of 1st April in the top 10 in the UK seed lists (from 313 teams).

With two strong teams it shows we should be able to lead the way for some time yet…We are keenly looking forward to the outdoor season. Thanks to CSJ for putting a ‘tiger in our tank' we can't backtrack now – it is all forward and upward for 2011!
