Grampian Gundog Club First Open Stake

Grampian Gundog Club held its very first 12 Dog Open (A.V. Retriever) Stake which was sponsored by CSJ Specialist Canine Feeds at Tulchan Estate in Moray on Wednesday 12th October 2011.

We were extremely lucky and could not have asked for better weather, conditions were excellent with the warm sun shining throughout and the slight breeze which was ideal for the dogs. Judges, competitors and spectators were all really looking forward to our first Open Trial and the setting was fantastic.

We had some top handlers and great dogs competing with Broadlaw Rikki handled by Billy Steel (Jnr) already qualified for the Retriever Championships, a Field Trial Champion and several others only needing to win this event to become field trial champions.

Once the trial got underway we were not disappointed. Tulchan Estate and the Headkeeper Les Mallinson did the club proud by producing challenging ground and an endless supply of game.

We started in a large field of barley which was the perfect height to allow handlers and spectators to see the dogs working. The short stem crop also gave the dogs a great chance to mark shot game.

The first round was completed in the barley crops before moving into a huge field of turnips, throughout the trial the game just seemed to keep coming at just the right times. The guns shot very well and this allowed the judges Garry Ford, Philip Turner, Mike Rolland and Roger Meldrum to keep the trial flowing.

There were some great retrieves; most dogs performed well with a couple of handlers learning to their cost a lot about trialing in barley and turnip fields.

There were still 3 dogs with very experienced handlers remaining as the trial started to come to its conclusion; Broadlaw Rikki handled by Billy Steel (Jnr), Dick Sorley with Kenmilquin Durie of Denbank and Les McLean with Denbrig Macallan at Aithness.

Both Billy and Dick only needed a win to make their dogs Field Trial Champions but after errors by both dogs it was Les McLean with Denbrig Macallan at Aithness who managed to hold on to win our first Open Stake.

The day was a huge success and we thank Jean and Jim Mitchell for presenting the club with the Millbuies Trophy which was gratefully received by the winner.

Final result:
First Place: Denbrig Macallan at Aithness, handled by Les McLean.
COM: Kenmilquin Durie of Denbank, handled by Dick Sorley.

We look forward to next year’s event and can only hope that is just as successful.

Heal works! Great value too!

I just wanted to write to say how impressed and pleased I am with "Heal".  My Boxer, Amber has always had a delicate stomach and would often be off her food 2-3 times a week, waking me up in the night to go outside with a gurgling tummy, eating grass and looking thoroughly fed up until late afternoon when she would recover and start eating.

Since starting her on "Heal" she no longer disturbs us at night to go outside and only has a sore tummy very occasionally...maybe once or twice a month at the most, which is a vast improvement!! and means that I get my sleep!!

When I finished the first tub of "Heal" it took me about a month to get round to re-ordering, and during that time she went back to having a sore stomach a few times a week, which just confirmed to me that the herbs really do soothe and calm her digestive system and since starting them again she has been fine.

I am also impressed with the value for money compared to other herbal products. The tubs are massive and last for ages, and smell really nice too.

Many thanks

Susan
