CSJ Novice Agility Final 2011 - Report & Results

Report by Ann Harmes

"I must begin my report with a huge "Thank you!” to Jackie Kenny and her team for helping us and enabling this event to continue!

This year was a big change for us going from Malvern - our hosts for many years, and I must say, I was thrilled with the response both from competitors and spectators who, once again, hailed this event as 'quite special!' Bakewell was a beautiful setting, with amazing views, and a really nice atmosphere - it just worked!

Our judge was the very experienced Yvonne Croxford. Yvonne seta fun but testing course for our finalists to tackle; A tunnel discrimination element near the start caught out quite a few of our finalists, however, nerves also play a part in any final at this level.

With all our 32 finalists booked in and nervously gathering, the course was walked giving plenty of time for everyone to work out the best lines, and the fastest turns! Yvonne had put a great finish for the final with a strong run for home! Many were also caught out by the weaves as some dogs exited early with handlers pulling off in anticipation of the next obstacle.

First to run was Wendy Groome with Midwinter Sunset on Ice picking up an unfortunate elimination - Gary Wilkes followed with Cheeky Doctor Rossi also picking up an elimination and Steph Shann also an E on the tunnel / dog weave combination. Sarah Davis running 4th had an unfortunate run-by on the 2nd to last obstacle picking up 5 faults.

Our first clear came at running order number 7 who was Lorna Peachey and her amazing Fueled for Life by Diesel! Well we all thought this would be incredibly hard to beat with an awesome run that took her straight into the lead witha time of30.63 secs. It was going to take someone special to knock that one off the top spot!

Michelle Drawater and Phil Hicks followed both unfortunately pulling out of the weaves. Our next clear was soon to follow fromSam Clarke running 12th with Indysols Miss Moneypenny did a beautiful run, in a time of 31.42 taking her to2nd place!

Two more handlers Ruth Jones and Peter Ayling had weavefaults, and Nigel Hugheswith astunningstart sadly took a pole. I must mention our next handler as she was somewhat of a concern to me: Hannah Holdsworth, fit to burst - was up at number 18. A very brave attempt with no watery accidents! SadlyHannah picked up 10 faults for rolled poles but we hadtowels, hot water and a shopping trolley standing byjust in case!

Following Hannah was one half of husband and wife team who had qualified for the final -Amanda Ellerton and Dragondaze into Gear. Remember this dog as I think we are going to seethem at a lot more finals! A stunning dog and beautifully handled but not their day as a pole at no 5ended their chance to take home the beautiful crystal! Our next clear followed with Heidi Windheuser and her Kelpie Rajjinka High Flier taking her to 3rd place in a time of 34.37 secs. Kelly Watchron and Pia Glover both fell victims to the tunnel/dog walk combination,

The penultimate round was to swiftly follow: Running no 25, Sandra Adams and Darleyfalls Pipstrelle. This dog is lightning-quick - but would she be able to steer her roundthis course andtop Lorna's amazing run earlier in the competition?! Sandra and Pip wasted no time anywhere, and with an amazing running dog walk, Pip just ate this course up - even hitting the seesaw slightly off-line didn't phase this little dog, she very honestly held on with all her might and nailed the contact 100%. Pip took the lead in a time of 29.75 secs and I think we all knew at that point thatwe had probably just watched the winning round!

To follow we had some lovely runs and great attempts- and a great clear running 2nd to last from Janet Melvilleand Mylickle Dimond Deeba - taking her into the places. Last to run was an amazing little handler, Amelia Nicholson, a young lady with some talent as a handler. We all held our breath as she managed a really lovely run only to pick up 5f right at the end of the course on the A frame. A fanatasic attempt, Milly - I am sure we will be seeing so much more of you. You should be very proud!

So that was our last dog, a very exciting final once again with some stunning partnerships!

It's always a joy to see these young dogs making their mark on the agility circuit - and watch these rising stars -many going on to do amazing things in the higher grades. They learn their craft in Novice and that is why I love these Novice competitions so much!

A huge "Thank you!” to all the competitors fortaking part; Massive congratulations to the winners this being the second time Sandra has won the CSJ Novice Final with Pip's mum, Flyntastic Flo winning it in her Novice years so quite an achievement! Oh, and did I mention..... Pip is my pup's mum so I am very proud!

We hope you all enjoyed the event.

A note from our judge, Yvonne Croxford..

"It was a great honour to judge the CSJ Final, especially as I have competed in it in the past. I knew that there would be a real mixture of dogs and handlers as some would already have qualified to G7 and others still in the novice grades. Nerves got the better of some and mistakes were made in all different places and there were some cracking rounds as well. Well done to Sandra Adams for winning the final and all the finalists.”

Thanks to Yvonne for an exciting final, to our ring party and all who helped run the event. To Dog Vegas and Bakewellf or being our hosts and to First Contact (equipment suppliers)"

NB A big thank you to everyone involved in making this event such a success from everyone at CSJ - especially to Ann & Stuart.  Ceri

Heal works! Great value too!

I just wanted to write to say how impressed and pleased I am with "Heal".  My Boxer, Amber has always had a delicate stomach and would often be off her food 2-3 times a week, waking me up in the night to go outside with a gurgling tummy, eating grass and looking thoroughly fed up until late afternoon when she would recover and start eating.

Since starting her on "Heal" she no longer disturbs us at night to go outside and only has a sore tummy very occasionally...maybe once or twice a month at the most, which is a vast improvement!! and means that I get my sleep!!

When I finished the first tub of "Heal" it took me about a month to get round to re-ordering, and during that time she went back to having a sore stomach a few times a week, which just confirmed to me that the herbs really do soothe and calm her digestive system and since starting them again she has been fine.

I am also impressed with the value for money compared to other herbal products. The tubs are massive and last for ages, and smell really nice too.

Many thanks

Susan
