Strathmore Working Gundog Club - Open Qualifier

On our arrival, Mike Nisbet, Lord Airlie’s head ‘keeper, informed us that due to an outbreak of the dreaded Myximatosis at our normal venue, he would be taking us to a different part of the estate. My first worry was, would there be enough rabbits! As we made a start, it quickly became apparent that my worries were completely unfounded, I should have known that Mike would not give us anything but the best.

As the judges, Eion Robertson from Fife and David Lisett, the Duke of Buccleuch’s resident dog trainer, from Dumfries, worked through the card, every dog was well tested with multiple finds and retrieves.

Throughout the day the dogs had to hunt a variety of cover including heather, rushes and gorse which all held game. As the day came to a close, in weather which was more like July than October, the judges made up their books and decided that no run off would be necessary. As the secretary, I was then put in the rather awkward, but nice, position of awarding myself first place as the judges had decided that my bitch, Buccleuch Amber had been the top dog on the day, with second place going to Simon Dixon’s promising young dog Dawsonlee Chance. This result was extra special for me in three ways: Firstly, it made Buccleuch Amber a Field Trial Champion. Secondly, I had won a novice trial with my young bitch, Clanicker Nita two days earlier, and thirdly, I have been second to Simon Dixon twice at our trial, so to beat him into second gave me a nice feeling of revenge!

Fab Champ!

Fab Champ!

Dear CSJ team

At the ripe old ages of 11 (ish) and 13 (ish) switching to a new food was no trouble with regards to introducing it slowly (too slowly as far they are concerned!) and Dem Bones are a wonderful incentive for them to not "forget” their recall and training – or even just remind them what good dogs they are really!

Incidentally after today's delivery – my third – the driver asked me about the food and will be telling his daughter all about it for her staffy!

My response was - I now buy a better food at a cheaper price and more conveniently than if I popped down to PaH to buy Chappie/Bonkers/Pedigree!!

Thank you for a good food at an excellent price and brilliant delivery service.

Jo (and speshall springer snuffles from Sam & Millie)
