Strictly Come Heelwork to Music!

The event drew enthusiastic dog owners from across the country and abroad to take part in a competition which combines music, dance and dogs. There were 91 entries with people travelling from as far afield as Belgium, Kent, and Yorkshire as well as a number of competitors from other parts of Wales, especially Anglesey.

Aberystwyth Dog Training Club Chairman, Jackie Storey said: "It's great that this event has been yet again such a huge success. We have received a lot of favourable feedback during the day and afterwards. It is good to know that competitors enjoyed the competition here in Aberystwyth.”

Throughout the day, many club members and friends give their time and worked tirelessly to produce a slick and successful event.

Everyone enjoyed the extra fun class ‘Let's Go to the Movies' where people let their imaginations and dress sense run wild. The winners were three members of the same family with a clever performance from ‘Grease'; Close runners up performed to "Timewarp” from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, in colourful costume.

The many hours of training which all of these dedicated dog owners put in each week were to be put to the test in the ring, where no toys or treats are permitted and three judges score the routines on Programme Content, Accuracy and Execution of Movement and Musical Interpretation.

Local competitors were very well represented, with an active group here in Aberystwyth attending weekly classes. Katie Prickett and her dog, ‘Mole' gained a well earned rosette for 5^th in the Starters class and there was a huge round of applause when local competitor, and Show Organiser, Jackie Storey, won her class with her dog, ‘Togg' (pictured) with a great performance from both of them.
